Authors are requested to submit electronic versions of the manuscripts, in order to facilitate an accurate typesetting, once the papers are accepted for publication. Manuscripts must be submitted in a medium that is accessible under Microsoft Windows.
Manuscripts that are typeset using Microsoft Word are acceptable. Authors are encouraged to use the template for Microsoft Word, to prepare the final version of their manuscripts. Authors are requested to submit their manuscript in Word Document Format. Authors are encouraged to submit the color version of the manuscript, for both printed and online versions.

1. Organization of a paper

A paper for publication in JAOP must contain a title, names and affiliations of the authors, a list of keywords, a brief abstract at the beginning of the main body, a conclusion section at the end of main body, and a list of references that follows the conclusion section, and a declaration of conflict of interest.

In the main body of the paper, three different levels of headings (for sections, subsections, and sub-subsections) may be used. The typesetting style for these headings is presented in the next section.

2. Cover letter

A cover letter is required for a scientific submission.

Summarize briefly the important points of the submitted work including a brief description of the study to be submitted, that it is an original study presenting novel work, that it has not been previously submitted to or accepted by any other journal, that is has been approved by all authors, that Ethics approval and written informed consent have been obtained, and explain whether any author has a conflict of interest.

3. Text layout

The paper must be in a single column format.  The text should be placed in a body area that is 5 " in width and 7.5" in height. The page size should be set to 7"×10".Use Times New Roman 11 point size, single spacing, except for the heading as outlined below. Use Times New Roman type throughout, except for mathematical symbols etc.

The title of the paper should be in bold, Times 14-point size at the top of the document as illustrated.  This should be followed by all the authors’ names. Affiliations of the authors should be presented as footnotes. Footnotes should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numbers. The index of the footnotes, in superscript, should be placed in the upper-right corner of the word that is to be annotated. Here is an example[i]. The title and the authors’ names should be centered in the document.

Figures and tables should be inserted in the text of the manuscript. You can also upload separate files of figures and tables if necessary.

There should be a space between the unit and Arabic number.

There should be a space between each section, subsection, and sub-subsections.

All subsection and sub-subsections should be italic.

4. Headings

The first section should be labeled Abstract and should contain a brief description of the contents of the paper. The section of abstract should not be numbered.  Subsequent sections should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numbers, starting from 1.

Level one headings for sections should be in bold and be flushed to the left.  Level one heading should be numbered using Arabic numbers, such as 1, 2, ….

Level two headings for subsections should be in bold-italic and be flushed to the left.  Level two headings should be numbered after the level one heading.  For example, the second level two heading under the third level one heading should be numbered as 3.2.

Level three headings should be in italic and be flushed to the left. Similarly, the level three headings should be numbered after the level two headings, such as 3.2.1, 3.2.2, etc.

5. Equations and mathematical expressions

Two different types of styles can be used for equations and mathematical expressions.  They are in-line style and display style.

5.1 In-line style

In-line equations/expressions are embedded in paragraphs of the text. For example, in-line equations should not be numbered.

5.2 Display style

Equations in display format are separated from the paragraphs of text. They should be flushed to the left margin of the column.  These equations should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numbers.

For examples, please check the sample downloaded above.

6. Figures

Figures (diagrams and photographs) should be in high resolution (> 300 dpi).

Photographs should be in focus, be of high contrast, and should not be lettered with a ball pencil, felt pen or ink. Colour illustrations will not be accepted in the printed version of JAOP; however, they will be accepted in the online version of JAOP. Line drawings should be supplied as clear black- and-white drawings suitable for reduction rates of 40-50%. Lettering should be of standard vertical type and large enough, so that, after reduction, it will not be less than 2 mm size. Submission of digital images is preferred, and strongly suggested.

All figures should also be numbered consecutively using Arabic numbers.  They should be placed in the text soon after the point where they are referenced.  Figures should be centered in a column and should have a figure caption placed underneath.  Captions should be centered in the column, in the format ``Figure 1.  The text caption …'', where the number of the figure follows the keyword Figure, followed by the text caption. Illustrations must be submitted in digital format, with a good resolution.

Figures can also be separate files, but the only formats acceptable are .jpg and .tiff with resolution > 300 dpi.

7. Tables

Tables should also be numbered consecutively using Arabic numbers. They should be placed in the text soon after the point where they are referenced.  Tables should be centered in a column and should have a table caption placed above. Captions should center in the column in the format ``Table 1.  The text caption …''

8. Citations

The author-year format of the citation must be used for the references. For example, see Atluri and Nakagaki (1986).  Please cite all the authors' names; please avoid the use of "et al".  No citation to the page number should be used.  Citation to the figures should be in the format of Figure 1.  Citation to the tables should be in the format of Table 1

9. References (Articles should be cited in the text by Author surnames only and year):

All references should be numbered and listed at the end of the paper [Atluri and Zhu (1998); Atluri, Han, and Shen (2003)]. The names of the authors should be in bold, with the last name(s) first.  The year in which the paper is published follows the name(s)  of the author(s).  Journal and book titles should be in italic [Atluri (2004)].

An appropriate short name of journal cited in reference should be used [ex.Comput Mech] followed by a comma before the volume, issue and page number

Volume, issue and page number [ex.vol. 4, no. 5, pp. 507–517.] should be listed as [ex. 4; 5: 507-517].
