Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • JAOP only accepts manuscript in Microsoft Office Word file format. Please make sure the submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format (.doc or .docx).
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses an 11-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points,...
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Settings Please upload a declaration states there is no conflict of interest and a cover letter.
  • Please suggest two reviewers of your submission on your title page or in the cover letter

Prior to submitting your manuscript, please ensure that it has been prepared according to the guidelines below.

    • The principal aim of Tech Science Press is to publish promptly original works of high quality in English. Manuscripts will be considered on the understanding that they are original works, or are review articles.
    • Manuscripts should be written in clear, concise English and should contain all essential data in order to make the presentation clear and the results of the study replicable.
    • The language Editors reserve the right to improve the grammar and style of manuscripts.
    • The corresponding author is responsible for the submission on behalf of all authors.

1. Submission Method

Manuscripts may be submitted only by using the online submission system accessible via our website http://tspsubmission.com. Create a user account, log in and follow the onscreen directions.

2. Cover Letter

A cover letter is required for a scientific submission. Summarize briefly the important points of the submitted work including a brief description of the study to be submitted, that it is an original study presenting novel work, that it has not been previously submitted to or accepted by any other journal, that is has been approved by all authors, that Ethics approval and written informed consent have been obtained, and explain whether any author has a conflict of interest.

  1. General Format of Articles

3.1 General Style

  • The size of the paper should be using letter “21.59 cm x 27.94 cm”, with 3.81 cm margins.
  • The paper must be in a single column format.
  • Use Times New Roman 11-point size, single spacing, except for the heading as outlined below.
  • Use Times New Roman type throughout, except for mathematical symbols etc.
  • Do not use page breaks or multiple returns between sections
  • Do not insert page numbers or line numbers
  • Use British English or American English spellings throughout your manuscript, but not both.

3.2 Manuscripts

For Title and Author Information

  • A paper for publication in Tech Science Press (TSP) must contain a title.
  • The title of the paper should be in bold, Times 14-point size at the top of the document. The title of the manuscript in sentence case. No abbreviations other than gene names or in common use.
  • Provide full names of all authors and their affiliations.
  • Affiliations of the authors should be presented as footnotes. Footnotes should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numbers. The index of the footnotes, in superscript, should be placed in the upper-right corner of the word that is to be annotated.
  • The title and the authors’ names should be centered in the document.
  • Running title is optional.
  • The corresponding author should provide an email address.

For Abstract

  • This document summarizes the instructions for authors to prepare their papers for publishing in Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics.
  • Authors are requested to adhere to these instructions, in order to avoid delays in the typesetting phase.
  • This short document can be viewed as a sample paper; and will assist the authors in manuscript-preparation.
  • Abstract of a research paper should be 200-400 words, and 150-300 words for review paper.
  • The abstract should be in one continuous paragraph without reference numbers.
  • All abbreviations should be defined in full unless the abbreviation appears more than once in the abstract.

For Keywords:

  • 3 keywords are the minimum, and please use a comma to divide them.
  • Each keyword except the first one should be lowercase unless an uppercase letter is necessary.

3.2 Software

  • Authors are requested to submit electronic versions of their manuscripts in order to facilitate an accurate typesetting, once the papers are accepted for publication. Manuscripts which are typeset using Microsoft Office Word format (.doc or .docx) or Latex.
  • Authors are encouraged to use the guideline and template for Microsoft Office Word, to prepare the final version of their manuscripts and facilitate typesetting.
  • Authors may elect to submit two versions of their manuscript, one for the printed version of the journal, and the other for the online version of the journal.
  • Authors may be required to reformat their manuscripts if the format does not match the author’s guideline of TSP.

3.3 Headings

In the main body of the paper, three different levels of headings (for sections, subsections, and sub-subsections) may be used. The typesetting style for these headings is presented in the next section.

  • The first section should be labeled Abstract; and should contain a brief description of the contents of the paper.
  • The section of abstract should not be numbered. Subsequent sections should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numbers, starting from 1.
  • Level one headings for sections should be in bold; and be flushed to the left. Level one heading should be numbered using Arabic numbers, such as 1, 2, ….
  • Level two headings for subsections should be in bold-italic; and be flushed to the left. Level two headings should be numbered after the level one heading. For example, the second level two heading under the third level one heading should be numbered as 3.2.
  • Level three headings should be in italic; and be flushed to the left. Similarly, the level three headings should be numbered after the level two headings, such as 3.2.1, 3.2.2, etc.
  • All subsection should be separated by an empty line.
  • There should be an empty line between each section, subsection, and sub-subsections.
  • Do not use page breaks or multiple returns between sections 

3.4. Text layout

    • There should be a space between the unit and Arabic number: 5 mm NOT 5mm.
    • Please use Arabic number and relevant unit in the manuscript: 5 kg NOT five kilograms or 5 kilograms or five kg.
    • Do not use hyphen/dash or any connector symbol between the value and its unit: 5 kg NOT 5-kg.
    • Please clarify all units during a calculation or a mathematical relationship: 3 cm x 5 cm NOT 3x5 cm, 123 g±2 g or (123±2) g NOT 123±2 g, 70%-85% NOT 70-85%
    • Greek letters must be inserted using the correct Greek symbol (using Times, Helvetica or Symbol font), NOT written in full, i.e., alpha: α; beta: β, ß, (available in Times and Helvetica); and gamma: γ, etc.

4. Figures and Tables

4.1 Figures

General Style of Figures

  • Figures should have relevant legends/captions but should not contain the same information which is already described in the main text.
  • Figures (diagrams and photographs) should also be numbered consecutively using Arabic numbers.
  • Figures should be placed in the text soon after the point where they are referenced.
  • In the main text, where reference the figures, please use followed by a space and the figure number, ex. Fig. 1.
  • Figures should be centered; and should have a figure caption placed underneath.
  • The size of figures is measured in centimeters and inches. Please prepare your figures at the size within 17 cm (6.70 in) in width and 20 cm (7.87 in) in height.
  • Figures should have no frames and borders.
  • Figures must be submitted in digital format, with a good resolution.  

Figure Color Mode

  • Submission of figures suggests that the image materials have not been published elsewhere.
  • TIFF without layers and preferably using Lempel–Ziv–Welch (LZW) compression as it does not reduce image quality.
  • JPEG with > 300 dpi resolution is acceptable.
  • PNG with > 300 dpi resolution are acceptable.

Figure Captions and Labels

  • Captions should be centered in the column, in the format ``Figure 1. The text caption …'', where the number of the figure follows the keyword Figure, followed by the text caption.
  • Figure labels must be sized in proportion to the image, sharp, and clearly legible.
  • The size of labels should be no smaller than 8-point and no larger than the font size of the main text.
  • Labels must be saved using standard fonts (Arial, Helvetica or Symbol font) and should be of the same font and size in all figures.
  • All labels should be in black, and should not be overlapped, faded, broken or distorted.
  • Space must be inserted before measurement units.
  • The first letter of each phrase, NOT each word, must be capitalized.
  • Figures should be in the original version, should not be stretched or distorted.
  • Do not use Photoshop or such software to change the color or appearance of figures.

4.2 Tables

  • Tables must be numbered consecutively using Arabic numbers.
  • They should be placed in the text after the point where they are referenced.
  • In the main text, where reference the Tables, please use followed by a space and the number, ex. Tab. 1.
  • Tables should be centered and should have a table caption placed above.
  • Use Times New Roman. Font size no larger than 12.
  • All format should be consistent with the main text.
  • Each table should have a short title.
  • Titles should be centered in the format “Table 1. The text …” 

5. Equations and Mathematical Expressions

Two different types of styles can be used for equations and mathematical expressions. They are: in-line style, and display style.

5.1 In-line style

  • In-line equations/expressions are embedded in paragraphs of the text. 
  • In-line equations should not be numbered.

5.2 Display style

  • Equations in display format are separated from the paragraphs of text.
  • Equations should be flushed to the left margin of the column.
  • Equations should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numbers. 

6. Citations

  • The author-year format of the citation must be used for the references. For example, [Atluri (1986)].
  • If the cited reference has 2 authors, please see the example, [Atluri and Nakagaki (1986)].
  • If the cited reference has 3 authors, please see the example, [Atluri, Nakagaki and Han (2000)].
  • If the cited reference has more than 3 authors Please cite all first 3 authors' last names, and followed by "et al". For example, [Atluri, Nakagaki, Han et al. (2000)].
  • When you cite more than one reference, please cite the name of the first author and year of each reference and separate them by a semicolon, see [Atluri (1998); Atluri (2003)].
  • If the sentence starts with a referenced author’s name, please cite right after the author’s name. For example, “Atluri et al. [Atluri (1998)] have found that…”.
  • No citation to the page number should be used.
  • Citation to the figures should be in the format of Figure 1. Citation to the tables should be in the format of Table 1

7. References

  • All references should be listed at the end of the paper, in the reference section.
  • The names of the authors should be in bold, with the last name(s) first.
  • References should be organized alphabetically by the last names of the first authors.
  • The year in which the paper is published follows the name (s) of the author(s).
  • Journal and book titles should be in italic [Atluri (2004)].
  • An appropriate short name of journal cited in reference should be used [ex. Comput Mech] followed by a comma before the volume, issue and page number.
  • Every paper in the References section must be cited at least once in the text of the paper. Every paper cited in the text must also appear in the References section.
  • Volume, issue and page number should be expressed as “vol. 4, no. 5, pp. 507-517.”.
  • Delete the PMID and DOI number when you have the data aforementioned
  • Based on our particular style, the first 6 authors will be listed as they appear. When more than 6 authors are listed, please list the first 6 authors and followed by et al.
  • Et al should not be italic.
  • Personal communications should be avoided.
  • Non-English references should not be included in the Reference list. The entire manuscript cited must be in English.

8. Conflict of Interest

Authors must declare whether there are any conflicts of interest with regard to the publication of a study.

Conflicts must be declared, as they may affect the integrity or reliability of the science in the study, as well as that of otherwise unassociated studies in the same journal.

Conflict of interest statements for public funding sources, including government agencies, charitable or academic institutions, need not be included.


9. Proofs

Authors must check their manuscript carefully before submission, after responding to peer-review, and when answering queries at the proof stage. Any errors will be faithfully transferred into the final PDF and print versions. Manuscripts can no longer be corrected after publication.


10. Article Processing Charge

TSP will gradually publish all its journals in full open access. The open access policy allows the scientific community to gain unlimited, free and immediate access to scholarly articles. Authors pay an article-processing charge for accepted manuscripts after peer-review. Rejected articles are free of charge. There are no surcharges based on the length of an article, figures or supplementary data. The article processing charge by each journal can be seen on each journal’s homepage.


11. Open Access Policy

11.1 general policy

  • All journals published by TSP are made available immediately to the content under an open access license. Everyone has free and unlimited access to the full-text of all articles published in TSP journals, and everyone is free to re-use the published material if proper accreditation/citation of the original publication is given.
  • Open access publication is supported by the authors' institutes or research funding agencies by payment of a comparatively low Article Processing Charge (APC) for accepted articles.
  • Tech Science Press publishes articles under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/), which permits unrestricted non-commercial use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

11.2 Permission for authors

  • The authors retain the copyright of their published articles, and the corresponding author has the right to grant on behalf of all authors the license (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License) to the publisher.
  • The license allows the publisher to publish, reproduce, display, distribute and store the author’s submission, the license also allows the authors to use their articles for non-commercial purposes with providing proper acknowledgment and citation of the first publication in our journals.
  • When using for commercial purposes, the authors should obtain permission and a fee may apply.

11.3 Permission for the third parties

  • Any third parties are free to reuse, change and build upon the work for non-commercial purposes.
  • A proper acknowledged and citation is required for such permission.
  • A fee may apply if a third party wants to reproduce a work for commercial purposes.

11.4 Publishing Policy

    • The most important criterion for acceptance is the originality of the work.
    • A decision to accept a manuscript is not based solely on the scientific validity of its content.
    • Other factors may affect decisions, such as the extent and importance of the paper.

12. Plagiarism Policy

12.1 Duplicate manuscript submission

All manuscripts submitted to our journals must be original. Upon submission of a manuscript, it is assumed that no similar manuscript has been or will be submitted to any other journal for publication. It is considered unethical to submit an identical manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. Multiple submissions of the same paper can damage the reputation of journals if published in more than one journal. Duplicate publications or redundant publications (re-packaging in different words of data already published by the same authors) will be rejected.

12.2 Plagiarism and other fraud

It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure that they pay particular attention to the originality of their work. Upon submission, all manuscripts are rigorously evaluated to identify any previously published material. Concerning the submitted figures, images are routinely examined for the presence of duplicated, or otherwise apparently anomalous, data. Authors should therefore retain their unprocessed data and metadata files, as the Editor may request them to aid in the evaluation of the manuscript. Authors should note that, if the unprocessed data are unavailable, this may lead to a delay in manuscript evaluation until the issue is resolved. If the journal Editor has reason to suspect that a manuscript is plagiarized or fraudulent, they reserve the right to raise their concerns to the authors' sponsoring institution and any other relevant bodies.

12.3 Misconduct

If misconduct by authors or reviewers is suspected, either pre- or post-publication action will be taken. In cases where misconduct, or otherwise unethical behavior, on the part of the authors is suspected after a paper is published (even several years after the paper has been published), a preliminary investigation will be conducted, again following the guidance offered in the flowcharts of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://publicationethics.org/resources/flowcharts) and the guidelines of ICMJE (http://www.icmje.org/). An explanation will be sought from the party or parties considered to be involved.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
